Position Overview
InNova Consulting, Inc. is seeking a motivated Survey Technician to support land surveying, construction staking, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and geospatial data collection for transportation, infrastructure, municipal, and private development projects. The ideal candidate will assist with both field and office survey operations, utilizing modern surveying equipment and software to collect, process, and deliver accurate survey data while collaborating with engineers, project managers, and field crews.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field surveys including topographic, boundary, construction layout, ALTA/NSPS, utility, and as-built surveys.
- Operate survey equipment including Trimble Geospatial Technologies, GNSS/GPS receivers, digital levels, and data collectors.
- Collect, process, and verify survey data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare field notes, survey reports, and documentation.
- Download, process, and adjust survey data using surveying software.
- Develop survey drawings, plats, and existing conditions using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or related software.
- Assist with construction staking for roadway, utility, site development, and infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients throughout project execution.
- Perform quality control reviews of survey data and deliverables.
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment and ensure proper field procedures are followed.
- Follow all company safety procedures and industry best practices while performing field work.
- Assist with UAV, LiDAR, mobile mapping, and GIS data collection as project needs require.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field, or equivalent field experience.
- 2–5 years of professional surveying experience.
- Experience operating GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, and electronic data collectors.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, or comparable surveying software.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, coordinate systems, and construction staking procedures.
- Ability to read engineering plans, legal descriptions, and survey plats.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license, or actively working toward licensure.
- Experience with IDOT, municipal, or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience with UAV/drone surveying and photogrammetry.
- Familiarity with LiDAR, laser scanning, GIS, and reality capture technologies.
- Experience with hydrographic surveying or utility locating.
- Knowledge of Illinois surveying standards and applicable regulations.
