The Gross Point Road Resurfacing Project involves upgrading approximately 0.55 miles of arterial roadway from Oakton Street to Main Street in Village of Morton Grove, Illinois. As part of the Village’s Arterial Street Improvement Program and funded through federal allocations managed by Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the project included roadway resurfacing, curb and gutter, driveway, and sidewalk improvements, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance ramps upgrades, and drainage adjustments to improve safety and operational efficiency along this heavily travelled corridor.
Challenge
Gross Point Road is a key arterial with high daily traffic volumes (16,600 vehicles in 2022) and a variety of aging infrastructure elements, including deteriorated pavement, failing curbs and gutters, and non-compliant sidewalks. The challenge was to deliver a major roadway improvement project while minimizing disruptions to commuters, residents, pedestrians, schools, and emergency responses maintaining safe traffic flow, and meeting strict federal and ADA compliance standards within a tight construction window.
Solution
InNova’s Construction Management team developed a phased construction schedule to support the contractor’s traffic management strategy of maintaining two-way traffic during lane reductions to minimize delays around school facilities. Flaggers were provided as needed to assist pedestrians and traffic control. The scope included:
- Milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement.
- Replacing deteriorated curb and gutter.
- Upgrading sidewalks and driveways to ADA compliance.
- Patching deficient concrete and asphalt areas.
- Adjusting sewer structures and applying joint sealant.
- Installing new pavement markings to improve safety and traffic flow.
- Restoring all improvements.
- Creating Soil Regulated Substance Report.
Outcome
By coordinating closely with the Village of Morton Grove, IDOT, residents, and school and emergency responders, the project ensured efficient workflow, minimized disruptions, and maintained access for commuters, pedestrians, residents and businesses and neighboring villages throughout construction.
