Position Overview
InNova Consulting, Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Civil Engineer (Transportation) to lead the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for municipal, county, state, and federal clients. This individual will serve as a technical leader and project manager, overseeing multidisciplinary teams through all phases of project development while ensuring high-quality deliverables, client satisfaction, and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate has extensive roadway and transportation design experience, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to mentoring staff and growing client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and delivery of roadway, highway, intersection, multimodal, and transportation improvement projects.
- Manage projects from proposal development through design, bidding, and construction support.
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering plans, specifications, calculations, reports, and cost estimates.
- Oversee roadway geometry, drainage coordination, traffic control, ADA compliance, utility coordination, and pavement design.
- Utilize MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and other engineering software to develop and review project deliverables.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, agencies, subconsultants, and project stakeholders.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including traffic, structural, survey, environmental, and utility engineering.
- Ensure compliance with IDOT, AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, ADA, and local agency standards.
- Mentor and supervise engineering staff, providing technical guidance and quality control reviews.
- Participate in business development activities including proposals, interviews, scope development, and client relationship management.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and resource allocation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in transportation engineering and roadway design.
- Demonstrated experience managing transportation projects for DOTs, municipalities, counties, or other public agencies.
- Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Strong knowledge of IDOT design standards, AASHTO policies, MUTCD, ADA requirements, and applicable engineering codes.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and project management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credential.
- Experience serving as Project Manager or Project Engineer on transportation projects.
- Familiarity with Phase I and Phase II engineering services.
- Experience with roadway safety studies, traffic engineering, complete streets, and multimodal transportation projects.
- Existing relationships with IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, Cook County, or municipal agencies.
- Experience with document management platforms.
